Mental Health
Mental health is another major priority of the Doctors here at Milton Village Medical. Anxiety and depression are common in Australia, especially amongst young people. Suicide rates are high. No one is free from life stress, whether it comes from family, work or other issues. Whether you are suffering because of relationship-breakdown, chronic pain, bullying, unemployment, substance abuse, domestic violence, or some other source of stress, come and talk to a doctor about it. They will help you work out the way forward.
Or, you might be suffering from some other sort of mental health disorder, such as post-natal depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorder or PTSD. These complex conditions require careful and thorough assessment and sometimes need expert input from a psychiatrist (a doctor who specialises in mental health, particularly in prescribing medications for mental health conditions). Your doctor can help you navigate this process and get the treatment you need.
The Australian Government provides funding for counselling with a psychologist (a specialised counsellor, usually with a Master’s degree in psychology), through the GP Mental Health Care Plan (GPMHCP) – if you get a referral from a GP. If you would like such a referral, all you need to do is ask. If you can, please tell our reception staff when you book, so that we can allocate enough time for this appointment.
