DOCTORS

Dr Katherine Shanley
Experience/Interests:
Born in Durban, South Africa, Katherine came to live in Brisbane with her family at the age of 12. She studied Medicine at the University of Queensland and went on to complete her GP training in Bundaberg. In the mid 1990s she worked and travelled in the UK and Europe, before settling back in Brisbane to return to general practice and start a family. Her two wonderful sons are now in their mid 20s, leaving her time to focus on her long-held goal to do more international travel.
Katherine is interested in people, and in all aspects of general practice, She has many years of experience in women's health but is equally happy working in men's health and paediatrics. Recent experiences caring for her own elderly parents have provided a good insight into managing the health needs of older people. She is also very interested in travel medicine and tropical health, and in 2024 she completed the International Society of Travel Medicine Certificate of Travel Health.
In her spare time Katherine enjoys reading and listening to audiobooks and podcasts, spending time with friends and walking her two dogs. She is looking forward to further travels, and to one day learning to play the piano properly.
